As a woman, it is important to know about your own body. The vagina is the organ that is capable of so many things at one time so it’s obvious that you should be aware of the anatomy and physiology of that. A woman can bear children due to the presence of her vagina and it can help the woman achieve a great amount of pleasure as well.
So it is only fair that you know about the functioning of your own body. Most of us go on without knowing why we get periods every month or why our period stops when we’re pregnant. That’s why I’ve found out some facts about the female vagina and here they are.
1. Some women are born without a hymen.
It’s completely natural to be born without a hymen inside the vagina. It’s only a temporary covering which is easy to break and if it’s absent, it doesn’t harm anything. It won’t cause any disturbance in performing any kind of activity or give any stress during sex.
2. The clitoris has nearly 8000 nerve endings.
The male penis is known to have around 4000 nerve endings but the most sensitive part of the female is definitely the clitoris with 8000 nerve endings.
3. The vagina can expand in size.
While intercourse, the vagina allows the penis to enter inside by expanding in size slightly but the real expanding occurs during childbirth when the child is pushed out of the vagina.
4. In rare cases, the vagina can entrap the male penis during intercourse.
Although, it happens very rarely but the vagina can adjust its size in a way that it captivates or clamps the penis inside it.
In those situations, you may have to visit the emergency room and seek medical advice to remove it out. (Ouch!)
5. The vagina can clean itself naturally.
There are a lot of mucous and sebaceous glands present inside and around the vagina which have the ability to self-clean. So, don’t worry about your vagina for catching an infection if you haven’t had the time to take a bath today!
6. Some woman cannot experience orgasms.
It could be due to a small clitoris or the distance between the clitoral head, and the vaginal opening might be large to make it impossible to stimulate the clitoris during intercourse. And yes, it’s a proven medical condition.
7. In case of a weak uterus, it slips down from the vagina.
When the muscles and ligaments keeping the uterus (womb) in its place they get weaken due to any possible reason, there could be a chance of uterine prolapse.
In milder stages, the lady feels as though some pouch like structure descends every time she coughs, laughs or sneezes but in a 3rd-degree prolapse, an entire sac-like structure will be seen coming out of the vagina which will have to be repaired only by surgery.
8. Having regular sex doesn’t ‘loosen’ up your vagina.
It is only a myth that having too much sex can loosen your vagina. Having frequent sex will probably increase the blood flow and lubrication of the vagina, but it will definitely not loosen it up.
The vagina has expanding properties, but it will come back to its original shape.
9. The pH of the vagina is similar to wine.
The pH of wine is nearly 3 or 4 which is the same as the pH of the vagina.
10. You can judge your fertile by vaginal discharge.
The vaginal discharge increases during your ovulatory period which comes around the 14th day of your cycle. You would be most fertile during those 3-4 days and you can plan to get pregnant around that time.
